Stabilization of the Gothic heart of the Saint-Jacques church

Project type

Restoration of listed heritage

Owner of the project

The church factory

Architect

Jacques Bruyere

Situation

Saint-Jacques Street in Tournai

Execution

2011

The Gothic church of Saint-Jacques in Tournai is classified as an exceptional heritage site in Wallonia. Due to wear and tear over time (disappearance of the mortar and rotting of the structural parts), the masonry piles without buttresses had a significant slope. The structural principle is to create a metal corset and apply a prestressing force at the top of the pile to compensate for the eccentricity of the resulting forces.
