The Carré Janson project, adjacent to Notre-Dame Cathedral, is located in the historic heart of Tournai. From the competition, the architect opted to cover the square courtyard with an inhabited roof. The difficulty of the project was to design this structure while meeting the architect's spatial aspirations. We opted for a superstructure placed on 4 triangular columns to work on the optical effect. The floors are made up of two large lattice beams braced by concrete elevator stair towers integrated into the existing buildings.
This confrontation of contemporary architecture and a historical heritage on this scale required many skills to reconcile sometimes opposing operating methods and an extremely short time frame.
